Joginder Singh (Jo)

Founder of The International Customs & Trade Practice

Jo has built this company on a significant, solid and extensive foundation of expertise and experience in all trade and customs practice matters, at both a strategic and operational level. He specialises in customs tax planning, where the ultimate goal is to reduce the costs of doing cross-border business within the legal boundaries of customs regulations.

He also has significant experience in negotiating with customs and trade-related authorities, especially in emerging markets such as India, Indo-China, China and Indonesia.

Apart from working for the big 4 as a customs advisor Jo has also worked with a range of MNCs. He has lead teams of trade professionals across Asia and gleaned a deep understanding of the intricacies and synergies between Customs Licensing and VAT/GST operations. There’s no substitute for experience in these sorts of matters. His involvement in supply chain and M&A projects with primary objectives of integrating, improving and ensuring compliance with trade regulations has allowed Jo to assist companies in saving costs and reputation time and time again.

The USAID assignment project was one of Jo’s crowning achievements. He successfully secured key changes to the Philippine customs legislation, introducing the post-import audit regime. He was also responsible for developing a post import audit manual and the training materials for Philippines Customs.

Jo has had extensive experience working for New Zealand Customs Service & Ministry of Commerce, where one of his key achievements was that he conducted dumping injury investigations within New Zealand and overseas, covering a wide range of industries. He also developed the concept of customs post entry audit in New Zealand, heading the team that successfully tested the concept on a major company in Wellington.

These achievements all culminate to produce exceptional knowledge of the inner workings of customs practice and trade regulations as they apply to the Asia-Pacific region. Jo continues to help businesses with efficient customs compliance audits and monitoring, while saving costs with duty exemptions and intelligent duty planning and making processes easier through regulatory compliance reform.
